  1. Re: Newbie Update Question (GNU Core Utilities)

Perhaps my machine gets updates earlier than yours because it's a rather common HP device that is really crappy running Windows. Lots of people have probably installed Ubuntu on them. I didn't even...
  2. Re: Newbie Update Question (GNU Core Utilities)

Thanks, and thanks for the link, but I'm not sure that's it (although your answer and that policy makes sense). I rebooted and that update (GNU Core Utilities) and a few others then installed after...
  3. Newbie Update Question (GNU Core Utilities)

I have my updates set to notify, and today I received my first notification that updates were available this morning. Checking on details, the last one, GNU Core Utilities, was unchecked, and I...
  4. Re: Why Didn't Firefox Automatically Update (New User Question)

    Thanks all! Learned a lot.
  5. Re: Why Didn't Firefox Automatically Update (New User Question)

Thanks, no I never have tried that snap command.

Are there any other apps affected by this behavior? Thunderbird?
  6. Why Didn't Firefox Automatically Update (New User Question)

I'm a fairly new user of Ubuntu. My Firefox was at 123.0.1 even though I read last week a new version was out. Today I ran both Software Updater and Software & Updates, and neither updated it. ...

Re: Intel or AMD best for Ubuntu?

I think it's simply because they have those pre-boxed with only Windows. It's like the changes I mentioned originally where a small change in memory will cost a fortune. The Dell site is very odd...

Re: Intel or AMD best for Ubuntu?

Thanks, so it's not every device, apparently. Too bad. I'd like to see some low end choices.

But on that last link you would save $400 going with Windows, or $350 going with Windows Pro. That's...

Re: Ubuntu vs. Lubuntu vs. Chrome OS Flex

The reasonably priced Samsung tablet has a crippled version of Dex, which is only wireless. I need to connect via HDMI. I actually ordered it and then cancelled once I realized that limitation.

Re: Ubuntu vs. Lubuntu vs. Chrome OS Flex

I'm not a fan of Apple either, but the iPads are rather reasonably priced. I needed a cellular version, and usb alt mode, which really limited my choice of tablets.

Re: Intel or AMD best for Ubuntu?

That might not be a bad idea since the only SSD I've ever had fail was an OEM Dell unit. Your way you can pick the brand/model for reliability.

Re: Ubuntu vs. Lubuntu vs. Chrome OS Flex

Thanks. I wish some of the sites I'd reviewed discussing the N4x00 CPUs prior to picking Lubuntu had mentioned that the CPU wasn't that critical, because I'm not all that limited on space. 4GB of...

Re: Ubuntu vs. Lubuntu vs. Chrome OS Flex

Unfortunately I don't remember for certain the release number of the Lubutu install, but it was the current LTS release from about two weeks ago. Still, wouldn't a full update do an update for...

Re: Intel or AMD best for Ubuntu?

How do you find the Dell laptops with Ubuntu pre-installed? I'm not seeing that on their site. Chrome OS, yes.

Also, is there a price advantage at all? The way Dell works is if you make even a...

Ubuntu vs. Lubuntu vs. Chrome OS Flex

New Ubuntu user, although I have used it a long time ago in the past. Here are my impressions of these three OS's for light use.

    1. Chrome OS Flex is clearly the easiest to install and use, but...
